When I worked with Habitat for Humanity, there were a number of our families who could never reach the next level of well-being because they were forever strapped with large medical and hospital bills that kept coming in monthly. Fixing a broken leg can cost $5000, and an average hospital stay will cost over $14,000! Some employers offer health insurance, but if you don’t have insurance for you or your family, there is now a cheaper option. Starting October 1, insurance for your family can be purchased through the website: healthcare.gov. If you have a low income (but too high for SoonerCare) you are eligible for a subsidy that will help lower your cost to an affordable rate. In Luke 4, Jesus said “He has sent me to give recovery of sight to the blind….” When I was still a young man, I was diagnosed with glaucoma. Health insurance has literally recovered my sight for me which would have been lost. In our world today, Jesus often heals through the many benefits of affordable health care. - - - Fr. Jim
